What does is the camp fee for the Puerto Rico trip?
The camp fee for the Puerto Rico trip is $399 per person.
What does the camp fee cover?
The camp fee for the Puerto Rico trip covers lodging, work site materials, evening programs, and most meals.
What does the camp fee not cover?
The camp fee does not cover your airfare, ground transportation, gas, free day activities or some meals.
Does TEAMeffort recommend any travel agencies to get my flights and transportation?
Yes, we do refer you to an organization called Highpoint and 963 Missions. They can help with both the airfare and the ground transportation. Please call our office (678-989-0111) or email our Overseas Coordinator Jeremy at Jeremy@teameffort.org for a flyer.
Will a translator be provided?
One of our staff members will act as your translator during the week. However, many people in Puerto Rico do know some English, so you will be able to get by to an extent on your own.
When do we arrive in Puerto Rico and when do we leave?
The camp runs from Sunday to Saturday. You will need to arrange your flights to arrive in San Juan on Sunday in the late morning to early afternoon and leave sometime Saturday late morning and on.
What meals are provided?
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be provided Monday - Thursday. Breakfast and Dinner will be provided on Friday and Breakfast will be provided on Saturday.
Is transportation provided?
No, transportation will not be provided. You will need to arrange for your own ground transportation. You will be required to transport yourself to and from the airport, the work site and to and from the free day activity. We do refer you to an organization that can help with ground transportation, Highpoint and 963 Missions. Contact Jeremy, the Overseas Coordinator for their contact information.
Where will we be staying?
You will be staying in the city of Ponce. Our housing site is a bunk-style facility called Ebenezer. It is owed by a local Methodist church and located down the street from their main building and down the street from the main square of Ponce. The facility is split into male and female sections. Bathroom and shower facilities are on site. The building is also air conditioned.
Where will we be eating?
You will be eating Breakfast and Dinner at the facilities of the local Methodist church. Lunch will be eaten on the work site.
Where will the chapel service be held?
The chapel service will be held at the local Methodist church's sanctuary.
Are we required to have passports?
No, you are not required to have a passport for travel to Puerto Rico.
Do I need to get any shots to go to Puerto Rico?
We recommend that you consult with your local physician or health department and they will give you the most updated information on whether or not any shots are required.
What type of work will our group be doing?
In the past, our groups have done both relational and construction work. Most of our work has been done in a local neighborhood called Beglica. We have run VBS programs for the local kids and have passed out food to families in the neighborhood. The construction work has included roofing, painting, and building projects throughout Beglica. We have also worked some outside of Beglica in partnership with other churches in Ponce.
What type of free day activities are there?
There are many different options for your free day activity. They include, but are not limited to, hiking, zip lining, excursions to a local island, beaches, etc. You will be required to transport yourselves to and from the free day activity. The cost of whatever activity you choose is not included in the camp fee.
How many people will be at this camp?
The capacity of this camp location is 75 people. This does not include theTEAMeffort staff members who will be present.
Will we be the only group at the camp?
If your group fills the capacity of the camp, then you will be the only group that week. If your group is smaller than our camps capacity, then we will look to put other groups in the week with yours.
What is the possibility of my group coming for longer than the standard Sunday to Saturday week?
As stated, our standard week is Sunday to Saturday. However, if you would like to try and deviate from the standard week, feel free to contact Jeremy, the Overseas Coordinator (678-989-0111, Jeremy@teameffort.org) and he will be glad to discuss other options with you.
