Responsibilities
- Guidelines: Summer Staff are responsible to understand and follow the guidelines set forth in this document and by
the Camp Director.
- Role Model: The Summer Staff Member’s top priorities are to be an example of balanced Christian living as a servant of God in deed, word and action.
- Safety: The Summer Staff must maintain the safety of the youth and peers at all times.
- Enjoyment: The Summer Staff must keep a healthy balance between organization and spontaneity so as to provide an environment suitable for the youth’s development and enjoyment.
- Discipline: The Summer Staff must maintain a safe and Christian environment. The youth are not expected to be perfect, but when their actions put themselves or another individual in harms way or when their actions begin to run contrary to the goals of TEAMeffort, the Summer Staff can usually rectify the situations with a polite, positive and firm clarification of TEAMeffort policy. If you feel unable to manage a youth through these means, send for the youth’s leader or sponsor. If they are not available, consult with the camp director. If you have had to speak to a Youth Director or chaperone about a discipline issue, report the encounter immediately to the Camp Director.
- Leadership: The Summer Staff should exhibit strong, compassionate leadership, always encouraging and guiding the youth. The Summer Staff are not expected to crank out “leaders for tomorrow,” but to seek to develop youth who will have the desire and ability to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and acquire a joyful willingness to serve and put their faith into actions.
- Attitude towards Youth: The Summer Staff should picture each youth as a Godly young man or woman and to listen carefully to get a feel for their home/church/emotional/social/physical/spiritual situation. The Summer Staff’s relationship towards the youth should be of a professional nature; flirting and fraternizing are strictly prohibited. This will help the Summer Staff to work more effectively with the youth through relational ministry on the mission sites and during other programs and activities.
- Attitude towards Youth Groups: The Summer Staff should have a servant’s heart with respect to the church groups we serve. The Summer Staff are to make every attempt to out serve the needs of the group within parameters of the current mission projects. It is TEAMeffort’s desire to bring different types of groups together to serve. Therefore, you will probably see differences in theology and style throughout the summer. The Summer Staff should use these opportunities as a time for personal growth, to strengthen their own view of what they believe and why, and not as an opportunity to fix others.
- Attitude towards Mission Programs:The Summer Staff should view the various mission programs not as recipients of our service, but rather as partners in ministry. An atmosphere of respect should be cultivated and maintained on the mission sites. Just as we show a high level of respect to the mission programs and the people who work there, the Summer Staff should expect the same respect in return.
- Attitude towards Responsibilities: The Summer Staff are to have respect for their responsibilities and execute them with their utmost abilities. They should take initiative and be proactive in performing any duties necessary without constant direction.
- Attitude towards other Staff: The Summer Staff are to make it a point daily to lift up and encourage the other staff as fellow servants of Christ. They are to treat each member of the staff better that themselves. They are to lend a helping hand to other Summer Staff members and camp staff. They are to seek to live, as Jesus Christ would have them live.
