Haiti…and how our alumni can help

If I know our TEAMeffort allumni at all, I know that each of you are heartbroken and want to do anything you can for those who are suffering in Haiti. Many of you want to give, some of you want to go, and all of you want to - and are - praying for God’s love to shine through the tragedy of those who are suffering such great loss.

We are praying with you, and TEAMeffort is making preparations to serve long-term in Haiti.

As you all know, we had opened up a camp in Haiti for this upcoming 2010 summer and were planning to take senior high or college age groups to the location. Due to the earthquake, all of our plans have been put on hold until we can evaluate how and when we can best serve.

We have been talking with the wonderful people at Much Ministries who we met through Casey and Laura Lynn, about how our service alongside them in Haiti will change.

We are going to have a more permanent mission camp presence in Haiti due to the overwhelming need for many years to come. I am not sure what this will encompass as far as the details, but plan to share all of this with you once I know. What I am sure of, however, is that TEAMeffort will have opportunities for you to serve in Haiti with other alumni throughout the year and to give to our Haiti Relief Fund to support our efforts.

Until the area becomes safe to take youth groups, which could take from months to years from now, we want this location to be more of a focus for our current staff and alumni who want to continue to serve in some way. We also want to be a sending organization for which you, in the future, would be able to assemble a team of college age or adult people you know to lead through TEAMeffort to Haiti.

Again, we are still in the planning stages at this time and trying to remain very prayerful about how we can be used in Haiti. Let’ s all continue to pray for the efforts being put into the immediate relief in Haiti and for how TEAMeffort can be used to serve the people in need there.

Blessings!
Doug Jones
